Description
Anemone piperi, commonly known as Piper's anemone, is a provincially red listed flowering plant in BC. Federally it is not listed. It is part of the buttercup family. It is a dicot with a perennial lifecycle. They are commonly found in conifer forest habitats. Anemone piperi is a flowering plant that is 10-35 cm tall. The leaf shape is lobed (being divided by clefts, may be pinnately lobed or palmately lobed). Their surface is smooth or hairy. Their edges are dentate. Leaves are arranged rosette. Leaves are stalks 10-20 cm long. The stems form is erect and ascending. The flowers have 5 white or pink pedals or sepals. Flowers are 8-20 mm long and 6-8 mm wide. Fruit are approximately 0.5-1 mm long and 1.5-2 mm wide. The fruit are egg-shaped, hairy and smooth. It has a rhizome root structure. Their prefered habitat is conifer forest. Sun exposure is typically shade. And the pH requirements are moderately acidic or slightly acidic. It can be found from 1000 m to 2000 m in elevation. It can be found in British Columbia, Canada. Anemone piperi is found in the engelmann-spruce-subalpine-fir biogeoclimatic zone(s). |
